Plan of Salvation in Union Square

A few weeks ago, one of my neighbors tagged me in a post on Facebook containing this video.
So, I watched it.

As I watched, I realized it was in New York.

My brother is serving a mission in New York.

Then, I saw him.

And I bawled. Cause I'm an emotional wreck all the time.

My brother, Elder Fotheringham, is wearing a light blue shirt, jeans, and black shoes with green soles. In fact, that is his arm in the picture before you start the video.

This video has gone viral, at least around Utah it has. The Zone Leader (the missionary at the very beginning of the video being interviewed) has a blog and decided to do this Plan of Salvation Project and would then post pictures from it on his blog. Then, one of the members of the church in the area came and filmed it for them and made this video.

Within 72 hours of this project, the Zone Leader's blog, "Reach" My Gospel, had received over 14,000 views!

Then, Deseret News heard about the story and decided to make a call to New York! You can read the article about it here.

Missionary work can be done in various, creative ways. It is not just about knocking on doors. If missionaries in New York can draw the Plan of Salvation in chalk in the middle of Union Square, I can talk to those around me about the gospel that I love so much.

In this words of Al Fox Carraway, #UseTheInternetForGood :)

Can it be January 19th yet?

Sherlock-Season-3-EW-Exclusive.jpg
Sherlock. Oh, Sherlock.

This show is amazing. A-MA-ZING.

It is a BBC show that is also aired on PBS in the U.S. There are 2 seasons that have been aired. Each season only has 3 episodes, but the episodes are each an hour and a half in length.

This show is the perfect mix of solving crimes and mysteries, action, humor, family drama, arch-nemesis, and friendship.
Also, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are brilliant together.

I found out yesterday that the 3rd season is scheduled to air in the U.S. on January 19th, 2014! Article about it here!

If you haven't watched the first 2 seasons, you have until January 19th to get caught up :) They are available to view on Netflix and Hulu.

Trust me, it will be the best TV decision you have ever made.

Yes, I know it's already October, but life got in the way of making this post happen this week, so here we are now :)

I love this song and it pretty much sums up my month of September.

Quick Update!

Remember that one time that I blogged??

Yeah, me neither.

Life is crazy and my mind is spinning with drug facts and mechanisms of action, indications, contraindications, and side effects.

So, I thought I should take 30 seconds and provide you with a quick update!

Nursing School controls my life, but that was to be expected.
LDSSA is as great as ever!
I didn't do UFIT this semester and it makes me sad that I can't see cute Hudson every week.
Homecoming Week went great and I love SAB!
*UBook Tradition Post to come soon!*
I got to see Andy Grammar and Karmin at Redfest, which was an absolute blast!

The Holy War has been suspended for 2 years after a GLORIOUS Utah win! The Mighty Utes will again rival the TDS (team down south) in 2016.

OH, and this kid comes home tomorrow. I'm kinda excited ;)

Well, that's all for now folks!
Hopefully after my pharmacology test destroys me, I'll be able to find some time to write a few more posts :)

Cool School of the Week: University of Utah!

About a week ago, I was on TV!
The Student Alumni Board and MUSS Board for the University of Utah got to represent the Mighty Utah Student Section on Fox13's Cool School of the Week news segment!

To watch the video's of the segments I was in, go here and I am in the 4th, 5th, and 6th videos down the list.

It was so much fun and I loved being able to represent my school!

After filming, we decided we needed to get pics on the field :)

Dear First Love,
You get home in less than a month!
Guess who's excited?? This girl :)

Becca Bec

Dear Brother,
Some days, I really wish that I could just talk to you for real.
In the car, driving down 90th, like the good ol' days.
But I guess I'll have to live with this whole missionary situation.
Love and Miss you!
Love,
Sister

Dear Brown,
You are still pretty rad :)
Love,
Becca

Dear Muffin Top,
What goes through your mind?
Love,
Becca

Dear Obi-Wan and Half & Half,
Why did you both have to move away?
You should come back.
Love,
Becca

Dear Plasma,
It's amazing how much one conversation can turn your whole mood around.
Love,
Becca

Dear Thomas the Tank Engine,
I don't always get you.
Good thing I just don't care anymore.
Love,
Becca

Utah Football for the WIN!

As any and all Utah Utes Fans SHOULD know, the first football game of the season was on this past Thursday against the Utah State Aggies!
Let me first say that Utah State played an amazing game and that their quarterback, Chucky, is a maniac and will do some great things this season!
But, my Utes pulled out their first win of the season!
30-26

This was an awesome game and I had the awesome opportunity to witness the #REDemption from the SIDELINES!!
My very good friend and MUSS buddy Lisa, aka Muffin, won the MUSS Tailgate Raffle for 2 Sideline passes! Also, this was her VERY FIRST Utah Football game! Talk about AWESOME!

*Warning: Photo overload coming*

The Start of the Rest of My Life

This past week, I began on the path to my future. I started the Traditional Nursing Program at the University of Utah.

These pics were taken at our "Lamp of Learning" Induction Ceremony.

I have been waiting and working towards this for what seems like forever that now it is weird to actually, finally, be at this point. I've been going to school for all of my life, and now the end is actually in sight. I have 2 years in the program and will graduate in May 2015 with my BSN, Bachelors of Science in Nursing.

Here's to the next 2 years and this crazy journey that I'm on!

BEST DAY EVER!

Last Friday, I had the amazing opportunity to tour the BRAND NEW University of Utah Football Facility!
3 Words.

BEST. DAY. EVER.

The Student Alumni Board and the MUSS Board were both invited to tour the facility and then chat with Coach Whittingham about the team and the upcoming season. It was amazing! I was so star struck! Then, we got to eat lunch in the cafeteria of the facility with the football team! Again, Star Struck!

Here are some pics from the day!

Bottom Left: That was just 1 aisle of their shoes!
Majority of the other pics are from the state of the art gym!

Top Center: The wall of NFL helmets where Utah players have gone on to play at.
Top Left, Center, and Middle Right: In the press room.
Middle Left and Bottom Right: Where Coach Whit does his podcasts and other videos.

This seriously was the best day ever. I don't know if I can emphasize that enough!
I am so excited for Utah Football to start!

10 DAYS!

Get pumped with me with this pump-up video!

What does your "BUSY" mean?

This story was told in sacrament meeting today and it really makes me think and want to sort out my priorities.

Satan called a worldwide convention of demons. In his opening address he said, "We can't keep Christians from going to church. We can't keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth. We can't even keep them from forming an intimate relationship with their Savior. Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken. So let them go to their churches; let them have their covered dish dinners, but steal their time, so they don't have time to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is what I want you to do," said the devil: "Distract them from gaining hold of their Savior and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day!"

"How shall we do this?" his demons shouted. "Keep them busy in the nonessentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds," he answered. "Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow. Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles. Keep them from spending time with their children. As their families fragment, soon their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!"

"Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice. Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive. To keep the TV, VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music constantly. This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ. Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers. Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day. Invade their driving moments with billboards. Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes."

"Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real meaning of Christmas. Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resurrection and power over sin and death. Even in their recreation, let them be excessive. Have them return from their recreation exhausted. Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead. Keep them busy, busy, busy!"

"And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences. Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus. Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause. It will work! It will work!"

It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there, having little time for their God or their families and friends. Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives. I guess the question is, has the devil been successful at his scheme? You be the judge!

Does "busy" mean:
B-eing U-nder S-atan's Y-oke?

Author Unknown

While this summer hasn't been busy really at all for me, I think my non-busyness has almost had the same effect. I didn't know what to do with myself, so I just didn't do a whole lot of anything.

There is a fine balance of staying occupied, but still having enough time for the Lord. School starts in a week, and I still need a job, so I think that my life will most likely get a whole-lot busier. I just need to always remember to make time for the Lord and make sure that it is my most important relationship.

Happy Sunday!

A Summer of Books

With the end of summer looming near, I have started to reflect on all that I have done this summer. The thing that stands out the most is the amount of reading I have been able to do. And not just any reading, FUN reading that I won't be able to do again until probably next summer.

Some people might not think this is a great way to spend summer, but I have loved it. I don't get to do any fun reading during the school year, so I've been able to catch up on everything I've wanted to read from the past year!

Because I haven't been consistent about doing a book review for each read, I will not try to do them all in this one post. Instead, I will link each title with a webpage containing the synopsis for the book. But know, each book has given me a little bit of a new perspective to how I think, act, and live.

The Matched Series (Matched, Crossed, and Reached) by Ally Condie

I think the books that have impacted me the most this summer have been West of Independence, Matched, and Daisy.

West of Independence taught me about having love for everyone, no matter their beliefs.
Matched taught me to think for myself and to make my own choices.
Daisy taught me that my life really is blessed, and that some of your best friends can come from the most unlikely places.

What books have you read lately? :)
