DIY Bleached Shirt

This past week I was at a family reunion in Oregon (more on that later) and one of the activities we did was bleaching shirts!
I had seen shirts that had been bleached before, but I had no idea if I could do it and have it turn out looking half-decent!

So, this is what I did :)

Supplies:
Bleach
Spray Bottle
Dark Cotton T-Shirt (works best with 100% Cotton)
Cheap Paint Brush

To "Spray" a design on your shirt, first either tape off or cut out a design out of cardboard.

Put cardboard or multiple sheets of paper inside your shirt so that the bleach won't bleed through to the other side of the shirt.

Then, LIGHTLY spray bleach (that is in the spray bottle) onto the area of your shirt that you want to be bleached out.

You only need to do 1 or 2 sprays over the area. With the bleach, a little bit goes a LONG way!
If it doesn't look like the color is coming out of your shirt right away, wait for 5 minutes before deciding if more bleach needs to be sprayed on the shirt.

Let the bleach dry for about 10-20 minutes before you take off your tape or cardboard design.

To "Paint" on a design onto your shirt, use a cheap paintbrush and dip it in the bleach.
Quickly, paint on the design that you want. You might have to paint over the design multiple times for it to really show up.

My Final Product:

To wash your shirt, just make sure that you don't put it in a load with bleach in it, or your whole shirt will be bleached out and lose the design.

Just have fun with your shirt! All ages can do it, just make sure that an adult is around to handle the bleach. The "Classic" shirt with the Mustache on it was made by a 9 year old, so it is a whole family activity!
